In this episode of Legends of History, we take a look at the story of Tomris Hatun, the queen of the steppe.

Tomris Hatun inherited the rule of a people torn between civil wars and barren struggles from her deceased husband. As a result of long wars and struggles, he gathered the tribes together and turned the Massaget people into a force fighting for the same goal. The biggest threat in these lands dominated by chaos was the Scythians. Tomris Hatun achieved the impossible, defeated the Scythians, who had existed for 10 centuries, and created the safe peace environment that her people had dreamed of for many years. However, although the Massagetes created breathing space for themselves with their victory against the Scythians, the ever-changing conditions of the steppe continued to force them to survive. These developments on the shores of the Caspian Sea began to be talked about in the palaces of the Achaemenid Empire, the Massagetes’ neighbor on the southern border, and opened the door to a much more dangerous hostility for the Massagetes.
